Slingshot Extends Workflow Capabilities with “Document Queues”

December 23, 2020

Slingshot’s “Document Queues” module automates the handling of documents received from multiple sources (e.g., Image, EDI, IDOC, XML or Direct Entry).  Routing rules enforce compliance with company policies and streamline processing steps.  Document throughput is accelerated, data-capture accuracy improved, and processing costs reduced. “Document Queues” is especially appropriate for companies receiving large numbers of document with complex processing streams.

The “Document Queues” module allows documents to be automatically routed through multiple vali-dation, approval, and processing steps.  Routing rules can be set up by Entity and Document Type.  Rules can pertain to externally interfaced “staged” documents as well as production documents en-tered directly into Slingshot.  Each step can ‘pass’ causing the document to proceed to the next step, or ‘fail’ causing the document to route to a new Queue for review, data maintenance, or archival.

Documents may have associated image files.  Images can be viewed in many supported formats (PNG, JPG, BMP, TIFF, PDF).  The integrated Image Viewer tool supports both review and data entry and is suitable for single or multiple monitors.   Data files (e.g. xls or docx) can also be passed through the process.

Access to queues is defined by “Processor Group”.  Users are assigned to one or more Processor Groups.  The documents viewable by a specific user can also be filtered by the user’s Entity, Depart-ment, or Location.  Processor Groups can be permitted to update specific data fields on a document.  A “soft hold” feature allows a processor to review and release or reject a document.  Processors can also “claim” a document (preventing others from updating it) or manually route a document to a specific queue.  A background process called “Queue Sweep” reassesses queued documents periodically and moves them forward if previously failed validations now succeed.

The “Document Queues” module includes reports which highlight processing bottlenecks and measure processing time by processor, document type etc.  A history inquiry shows exceptions encountered and queues visited for each document along with a detailed audit trail of data changes.

Document Queues will be available as part of release G2-14.  For more information contact sales@slingshotsoftware.com
